Yes, good video. And I think this is stupid. I mean we don’t have a lack of money in the field of AI. On contrary, that gets bombarded by money. And if they want to grow some healthy and sustainable AI… That could be done by regulations. And the EU kind of screws up with that, currently. All the while we have lots of different problems in the Free Software world, regarding funding. And free platforms are to the benefit of everyone. They also strengthen freedom, democracy, … AI will just burn that money. And the EU foil everything by simultaneously not coming up with proper (and timely) regulations. (My opinion)

That depends on the country we’re talking about. I wouldn’t do it in authoritarian countries. But in the USA or other western countries for example, they usually don’t use their total surveillance technology to pursue minor and ordinary crimes. That’s mainly reserved for terrorism. You could end up in trouble by chance. But I’m not aware of any routines that connect cell tower data to deport immigrants. I’m not saying they can’t do it, they certainly already have the data ready to analyze. It’s just that it doesn’t happen to date. So your chances of getting persecuted are low. And a phone is a very useful device to carry around. (And strictly speaking, all phones leak your position and lots of personal information. If that’s valuable to someone, they shouldn’t carry a connected phone with them. Regardless of the situation.)

Agreed. Despite all the nuances (which are important, too)… Judging by this table, the biggest total blame is on white men, followed by white women and latino men, though there aren’t that many of them. But I feel i need to say this doesn’t have anything to do with ethnicity. You could also make a chart of city vs rural areas or several other factors and you’d probably also find interesting correlations and shifts in opinion.

I’m pretty sure the big paid providers aren’t going to fail you withoit a warning. And gmail etc are too big to fail. That’s going to wreak havoc with a lot of other users… Though: If they decide to ban you or delete your account… You’re going to be in big trouble. That regularly happens to people.

Only alternative I can imagine is to run your own email service. If you own the domain and server, it’s your call. But you have to pay attention to maintain it and not get hacked etc. That would be another way to lose email accounts. (Running a mailserver is more complicated than hosting a website.)
