I can see why libertarians oppose it.

I live in the Rio Grande Valley. The prevailing sentiment I’ve heard from people regarding trump-supporting Latino relatives was that they seem to be of the opinion that trump is only going to go after the undocumented. There’s also a fuckton of anger at the word “Latinx.”

Mind you, this is anecdote based on my personal observations living in the area, and I make no claims beyond that.

Couple this with the Democratic Party moving to the right on immigration. Now the people who once had common cause with Democrats and would begrudgingly vote for them in spite of their misgivings regarding abortion and trans people had no reason to stick with the party and either voted trump or stayed home.

It also doesn’t help that we lost our NPR affiliate a few years back. The valley is really spread out and a lot of people get their news from terrestrial radio on their work commute. Now the only non-music programming is trumpist grievance screaming.

If it prosper, none dare call it treason.

Personally, I think the administration dragged its heels because it was stupid enough to want to run against Trump again. After all, if they had the bogeyman incarnate to run against, they could move to the right and still be second worst. And second worst wins elections, right?

They didn’t say to whom it was open.

She supported and ran on most of those policies.

She ran on “don’t do anything different from Biden” and “Look! We got Cheney’s endorsement!” and “shut up, the economy’s fine!”

During the past administration, as many times as Democrats did.

Centrists denigrate people who have standards because they have none.

Or course, being moderates, they didn’t mean a word of it.

But it does show that even feigned progressive populism brings out the voters that running to the right alienates.

Sure but this is his only move here given what the shit ass Supreme Court rules on presidential immunity.

Oh cool. The latest in a looooooooooooooooong fucking series of “Oh darn! Our hands our tied! We can’t do this thing we never wanted to do in the first fucking place!” moments.

Odd, I find none of this personal opinion resonating in reality. IRA led directly to ~100000 new jobs.

Or maybe they shouldn’t have punted on things that had immediate tangible benefits to individuals and then gloat about the IRA which, while a positive, was largely bereft of tangible individual benefits.

Particularly after a very long, very public dismantling of every benefit of BBB and then killing it entirely. And then we saw the minimum wage increase die. So we saw Democrats show their true colors toward people who were struggling, and expected us to be happy with something where the only tangible individual benefit was 10 reduced drug prices for boomers on medicare. In 2026. And increasing the length of subsidies for the ACA.

As far as individuals are concerned, they were picking around the edges and ordering us to be happy about it. People had every right to ask “what’s in it for me?” after Democrats’ golden boy Manchin killed BBB. The answer was lacking.

And calling it the Inflation Reduction Act was a sick joke.

EDIT: I forgot about how Manchin was also the deciding vote to kill the expanded child tax credit, doubling child poverty overnight.

Some people expect unconditional worship of Democrats at all times. You only expected it for like a year. Enjoy being called a trumper for it like you called anyone who dared say boo to Bidenyahu.

Democrats moved to the right to try to get Republican votes. It failed. They will learn nothing and do it again.

It’s gonna be great watching centrists pretend that they didn’t just spend the election cycle moving to the right on immigration, supporting an ongoing genocide in Gaza, and parroting right wing hate against trans people in their own campaign ads.

They think they can do it all themselves.

If Democrats’ actions of the past months are anything to go on, Republicans won’t have to do it all themselves. They’ll have help from Democrats.

You seem to be under the false impression that I am here to defend the Democratic party.

Lying to minimize the betrayal of trans people does point in that direction, yes.

Centrists like to call themselves “other leftists” while supporting genocide and cozying up to the Cheneys.

So the cowardly betrayal of trans people exists at a higher level in the party than your lies indicate.
